The Expendables is a film about an organised elite fighting group who go around on counter piracy operations (Like in the film) or fighting dictatorships who rule militarily islands which aren’t so nice to the populations that live on them. The film features a lot of awesome fighting scenes, involving the major actors Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham and Jet Li. (To name a few) These fighting scenes are literally explosive showing scenes of a shot gun which can kill dozens and dozens of soldiers within 10 seconds or blow up fortified bunkers easily with the explosive shells they contain.
The story line from the star
t is that you are shown firstly them on an operation and that they have been hired to deliver 3 million dollars (USD) to pirates on the high-sea who have taken control of a vessel and crew. Action takes place when the pirates want 5 million dollars (USD) then one of these professionals called “Gunner” opens fire on the leader who is threatening the lives of the sea workers of the vessel with a huge sword. The shot gun ripples through and blows the head of the pirates body clean-off. Then other firing ensues on the rest of the pirates and they all get killed and operation complete. Though it is not as dull as I am making it sound, the fighting can only be described as one thing: Awesome.
The next mission is the main part of the film. Unknown to Stallone in the film, a CIA operative named Churchy (Who is Bruce Willis) is asked to find assassins and Stallone’s group is the perfect choice. This is the part where all three men being Arnold, Stallone and Bruce meet up in a church and the task is to originally kill a CIA rogue operative that is on the island exploiting the money given to him by the CIA to become rich by the growth of drugs being grown on the island. Stallone and Jason ahead of the operation scout the island with help from the daughter of the general who controls and dictates the island. The daughter in the film does not like one thing the father is doing and wants him dead or out of the way essentially. In this part of the film, they are confronted by a patrol outside or near the palace to which the general resides. This is the point where more action takes place and they let it rip with knives and pistol fire and kill all the men that they are confronted by.
The escape …
In the women’s (The daughter) car they came in, they quickly escape, to the amphibious plane they came in which landed in the bay around the island off the main port. Which is where they make their getaway. What happens next is awesome. They manage to escape in the plane however are taking fire from ground troops who are on a small pier firing at them. This is when the pilot (Sylvester Stallone) asks Jason to go to the front nose of the plane where you can fire internal munitions out of the plane. They turn the plane around and let it rip on the soldiers on the pier and the plane lets petrol leak out and Jason fires a flare into the petrol and the explosion kills over 20-30 people and nearly the rogue CIA operative and Steve Austin in the film. The scene ends here and they get back to the location where they boot up.
Before the escape they had the general’s daughter with them, however she wanted to stay and Jason couldn’t force her otherwise both Stallone and Jason would have been captured/dead. So they left without her. She is quickly found on the island and tortured or water boarded for information as to why the island was being scouted. The scene would then go to Stallone who wants to go back and rescue the daughter and I think the people of the island too.

All in all a much enjoyable film with lots of action and a decent story line. It isn’t a film to miss if you are a die hard fan of action films which pertain to this genre.
